Ambassador Sridhar Khatri hosted a reception in honor of Women of Courage awardees Ms. Muskan Khatun and Ms. Bhumika Shrestha


Ambassador Sridhar Khatri hosted a reception today at his official residence in honor of Ms. Muskan Khatun and Ms. Bhumika Shrestha, two young Nepali women who were awarded the U.S. Secretary of State’s International Women of Courage Award for the years 2021 and 2022 respectively. Welcoming the Women of Courage Award winners, Ambassador Khatri congratulated them for their achievements and extended to them and the rest of all Nepali women the greetings of the International Women’s Day. Muskan Khatun is a human right and women’s right activist who has been instrumental in bringing about new legislation criminalizing acid attacks and imposing strong penalties against perpetrators in Nepal. Bhumika Shrestha is a transgender activist and advocate for gender minorities’ rights and social justice in Nepal since 2007. She has helped lead the movement for gender minority recognition in Nepal.
