A. Documents to be submitted for Tourist Visa

  1. Hard Copy of Online Visa Application confirmation page (Sample below). Please have the correct form filled.

  1. Original Passport with at least 6 months of validity and containing at least 2 blank visa pages.
  2. Money Order or Cashier’s Check valid for a year in the name of ” The Embassy of Nepal, Washington, D.C.”.
  3. Pre-paid return Envelope with tracking number. (Not Required for Self Pickup)

Additional Documents Required For Refugee Travel Document Holder

  1. Sponsorship Letter from Nepali Citizen. (Download the format of Sponsorship letter HERE)
  2. A copy of the citizenship certificate of the sponsor.

Applicants are also required to submit the following documents, in addition to the documents mentioned above:

  1. Evidence of completion of 14 days of required doses of vaccination against COVID-19;
  2. Copy of mountaineering, trekking, or other related permits, if traveling for tourism activities that require permits issued by relevant agencies of the government of Nepal (Not applicable to Non-resident Nepalis).
All passengers traveling to Nepal by air or land route no longer require a fully vaccinated proof of certificate OR Negative PCR test report of COVID-19

Nepal Immigration

  • Nationals of the following countries are mandatorily required to obtain a tourist visa from the Embassy before they depart from the United States to Nepal: Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Cameroon, Somalia, Liberia, Ethiopia, Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan, and Syria. You must provide an invitation letter stating the purpose of your trip, as well as proof of hotel/accommodation booking and flight reservation.
  • Refugees with travel documents are also not eligible for an on-arrival visa in Nepal, so they should also obtain a visa from the Embassy before they depart from the United States to Nepal.
  • Kindly be aware that we are unable to issue visas for individuals with Refugee Travel Documents that list India as their place of birth.

  1. Children below 10 years do not require visa fee (This does not apply for U.S. Passport holder).

C. Application Procedure:

Applicant must mail completed visa application and required documents to the Embassy’s following address. Applicants will be notified by email and text whenever there’s an update on the application status.

Applicants seeking visas at the embassy in DC have the option to make payments using debit and credit cards, in addition to money orders.

D. Application Processing Time:

Normally 4-5 business days (Requests for same-day visa processing will not be accommodated to prioritize applicants who submitted their applications before you.)

(Sometimes, a visa can not be issued due to incomplete application or other reasons. So you are strongly advised to book your flight only after the visa is issued.)

 Note:

  1. The application will be returned if the required documents are not complete.
  2. The Embassy will not be responsible for the loss and damage of any documents while Toing and Froing, any undelivered passports because of insufficient postage, a weak envelope to bear up the load and other incidents that occurred during the handling of the documents by the postal office/courier.
  3. Owing to the limited number of staff, the Embassy strongly encourages the applicants to contact the Embassy for their inquiries, grievances/concerns by email to consular@nepalembassyusa.org. Any consular-related emails directed to the other email addresses of the Embassy may not be responded.
