The Embassy of Nepal will attest the Power of Attorney (POA) of Nepali nationals to execute legal proceedings in Nepali courts, pursuant to National Civil Procedure Code, 2017.

Required Documents:

  1. Two copies of the POA document in traditional Nepali paper (Nepali Kagaj) duly prepared by a registered lawyer in Nepal.
  2. An application addressed to the Head of the Mission by the POA giver.
  3. Both Original and notarized copies of the Citizenship Certificate and Passport of the POA giver and a notarized copy of the Citizenship Certificate of the POA receiver.
  4. Recently taken two passport-size photographs of both the POA giver and the POA receiver.
  5. Notarized copies of citizenship of witnesses
  6. Original Permanent Resident Card (Green Card) and its copy, or the document showing the visa status of the POA giver and its copy.
  7. The applicant must be present in person at the Embassy.

For Selling Land:

  1. Original and notarized copy of Land Ownership Certificate (lalpurja)
  2. Original and notarized copy of the receipt of the land revenue (tiro tireko rasid) paid for the land

For Divorce

  1. Notarized copy of marriage certificate

For Vehicle Ownership/ Business/Company Ownership Transfer

  1. Original and notarized copy of Vehicle Ownership/ Business/Company Ownership certificate
  2. Original and notarized copy of other relevant documents (Relationship Certificate, Vehicle Bill Book and Tax Certificate, Company Registration and Tax Certificate etc.)

Fee:

In case POA receiver is own family member within three generations: USD $5.00.

Otherwise: USD $40.00.

1. Do I need to book an appointment for POA?
Yes. Applicants are requested to schedule an appointment via email at their convenience by contacting:
socialsecretary@nepalembassyusa.org or consular@nepalembassyusa.org.

Alternatively, applicants may visit the Embassy on working days between 10:00 AM and 15:30 PM, subject to prior email confirmation. Please include your preferred date and time in your email and plan your visit only after receiving confirmation from the Embassy.

Please note that POA services at the Embassy are available only to individuals holding valid Nepali citizenship and a Nepali passport.

3. If POA service is not available for foreign citizens of Nepali origin, what is the alternative?
U.S. citizens of Nepali origin must prepare a Power of Attorney (POA) document in English in the United States and complete the required attestation process before submitting it to the Embassy. The process is as follows:

  1. Prepare a Special Power of Attorney document in English in the United States
  2. Notarize the document through a licensed notary public
  3. Authenticate the document from the Office of the Secretary of State of the state where the document was issued
  4. Authenticate the document from the Office of Authentications of the U.S. Department of State
