From June 2 to June 3, 2023 Ambassador Sridhar Khatri visited Dallas, Texas in connection with commemorating the 75th anniversary of Nepal-US Diplomatic Relations. On June 2nd , he spoke at a Meet and Greet program organized by the Nepalese Society of Texas (NST), alongside Ms. Anjali Kaur, Deputy Assistant Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). On June 2nd, he visited the Nepali Community Center in Euless, and also met with executives of Everest Federal Credit Union (EFCU). On June 3rd, he interacted with Nepali Diaspora businessmen at a Business Forum organized by Nepalese American Chamber of Commerce in Texas.
The Meet and Greet program on the 75th Anniversary was also attended by the member of Texas House of Representatives including Rep. Salman Bhojani, leaders from the Nepali community in Texas, including the Nepalese Society of Texas, Nepalese Association of Houston, and Greater Austin Nepali Society, as well as Nepali Diaspora professionals and entrepreneurs.
The Nepali community center in Euless, Texas serves as the headquarters for the NST and is also a center to host various social, cultural, and educational events, fostering a sense of belonging and promoting community engagement among the Nepali Diaspora in Texas.
Ambassador’s meeting with executives from EFCU, the first financial institution formed by Nepali individuals outside of Nepal established in 2018, was focused on ways to strengthen the financial access for Non-Resident Nepalis living in the US.
During his engagements in these events, Ambassador appreciated the role of Nepali community in further deepening and expanding Nepal-US relations at people’s level. Ambassador encouraged the participants to explore the unique opportunities available for investment in Nepal, especially in the area of IT, tourism, hydro power, and agribusiness. Deputy Assistant Administrator Kaur expressed readiness of the USAID to partner with Nepali Diaspora in further strengthening US development cooperation to Nepal. Participants in both the events exchanged views on opportunities and challenges for Nepali Diaspora to contribute to Nepal’s economic development through their investment and entrepreneurship.
During his visit, Ambassador also attended a meeting with IT experts from NST to explore possible collaboration in promoting investment in Nepal’s IT sector. He had similar meeting with
US Nepal Study Group regarding potential research collaborations focused on US-Nepal relations.
The events brought together Nepali entrepreneurs and community leaders based in Texas and showcased the energy and dedication of the Nepali community in Texas for their socio-economic advancement and their willingness to contribute to Nepal’s economic development efforts.
