Honorable Barshaman Pun, Minister for Finance of the Government of Nepal on April 16, 2024, addressed the business roundtable hosted by the US Chamber of Commerce at its headquarters in Washington, D.C. During the meeting, interacting with the U.S. businessmen and government officials, the Minister shed light on the Third Nepal Investment Summit to be held in Kathmandu from 28-29 April 2024. Ambassador Sridhar Khatri and USAID Deputy Assistant Administrator Anjali Kaur also addressed the program which was attended by representatives of major American companies who have invested in Nepal such as Meta, MetLife Insurance, Coca-Cola, Tata Group, and Disney. Ambassador Atul Keshap, Senior Vice President for South Asia of the US Chamber of Commerce moderated the program.
Minister Pun also held a meeting with the World Bank Vice Presidents Akihiko Nishio and Guangzhe Chen at the World Bank Headquarters where discussions were focused on the upcoming IDA Replenishment Meeting to be hosted by Nepal in June this year, and Nepal’s GRID development approach, among others.
In a separate meeting with VP Chen, the Finance Minister discussed the Bank’s financing for the Upper Arun Hydro Project. The Minister also met with the Vice President of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Ricardo Puliti and discussed about increasing IFC’s investment in Nepal which could reach up to USD 650 million in the next investment cycle.
