Electronic Travel Authorization for Diplomatic and Official Passports
An ETA shall be issued to individuals holding a diplomatic or official passport for official visits or assignments in Nepal, including accompanying family members.

The initial diplomatic/official visa is valid for 30 days.

Extensions can be arranged through the Department of Consular Services, Kathmandu.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. Do I need an appointment for a visa?
Appointment is not required for in-person ETA applications. Office hours are 10:00 AM - 3:30 PM (excluding lunch 1:00-2:00 PM), Monday through Friday, except public holidays.
2. What are the requirements for carrying medication?
Travelers must carry medications in original pharmacy-labeled packaging, along with a copy of the prescription and a physician"s letter.
3. How long is the ETA valid?
ETA is valid for up to six months from the date of issuance.
4. How can I pay the visa fee?
In-person applicants may pay via debit/credit card, cashier"s check, or money order. Mail applicants must pay via cashier"s check or money order. Personal checks are not accepted.
5. Are children under 10 exempt from visa fees?
No. All U.S. citizens are required to pay the applicable visa fee.
6. What if I do not want to mail my passport?
You may obtain a visa on arrival at Nepal"s entry points. Details:

7. How do I obtain a visa at the Embassy?

8. My application ID starts with "V" or "Z". Can I get a visa before departure?
No. Such applications are eligible only for visa on arrival. To obtain an ETA from the Embassy, your ID must start with “M”.
9. I am taking my pet to Nepal. What do I need to do?
Individuals traveling with pets to Nepal must ensure that they have the following documents:
- An International Animal Health Certificate issued by a government-authorized body
- A valid vaccination card
- An invoice (if the pet was purchased) or proof of ownership (if no invoice is available)
- A copy of the owner"s passport
Pet owners are required to inform the Animal Quarantine Office in Nepal in advance of their arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). This can be done by sending an email with details of the travel itinerary. Emails may be sent to: ktmquarantine@gmail.com. Applicants are also encouraged to visit: ktm.aqo.gov.np for additional information.
Upon arrival, the pet owner must report to the Animal Quarantine Office at the airport and formally declare the pet, presenting all the required documents listed above.
