Attention of the Embassy has been drawn to the recent media reports citing death of a Nepali national in a shooting incident that occurred near Guatemala-Mexico border on October 2, 2024. Following these reports, the Embassy inquired with the relevant agencies of the Mexican government about the situation of Nepali nationals affected by the incident. The Embassy has been notified that altogether 11 Nepali nationals were in the vehicle which came under fire from the Mexican security forces, out of which three were injured and are currently undergoing treatment. All 11 Nepali nationals are currently in the detention of the Mexican immigration authorities. No Nepali national died in the reported incident. The Embassy is in contact with relevant Mexican authorities and will update further on the incident as soon as more relevant information is available.
