Ambassador Sridhar Khatri congratulates the Nepali American Community in Maryland on the occasion of the great Nepali festival of Dashain being recognized by the State of Maryland. On the 5th of October 2023, Governor of Maryland Wes Moore signed the Dashain Day Proclamation following the passage of relevant legislation by the House of Maryland. Delegate of the House of Maryland Harry Bhandari sponsored the bill and strongly advocated for the recognition of the popular Nepali festival in Maryland.
The Embassy greatly appreciates and thanks Governor Moore, the Maryland House, and particularly, Delegate Bhandari for this cultural recognition. This recognition will greatly contribute to further deepening the longstanding and close Nepal-US relations at the people’s level.
On the same day, Member of Parliament of Nepal Chandra Bhandari, and Deputy Chief of Mission Kumar Raj Kharel attended the events held at Maryland State House in Annapolis and at the Nepali American Cultural Center in Baltimore to celebrate the occasion.
