Grand Nepal Cultural Performance held in Washington, D.C.

Ambassador Sridhar Khatri observed the Nepali Cultural performance held today on the occasion of the World Cultural Festival being held in Washington, D.C. from September 29- October 1, 2023. On behalf of the Embassy of Nepal, Washington, D.C., and his own, Ambassador Khatri extended his congratulations to Nepali cultural performers and the team. This is one of the biggest performances of Nepali artists in Washington, D.C. in which 165 Nepali artists performed before more than 100,000 audiences comprising of dignitaries, businessmen, and spiritual leaders from different parts of the world with the gracious presence of Guru, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar of the Art of Living Foundation (AOL).


Nepal Education Cultural Center (NECC), other community organizations and leaders, and community members including Mr. Rajesh Pradhan and Ms. Neeva M. Pradhan were the key supporters and sponsors of the Nepal Cultural Performance, and it would not have been a success without their support. Ms. Saroj Prajapati, President of NECC has helped to bring the team together to help make this event a success. The main choreographer Mr. Yagyaman Shakya, a well-known dance instructor has provided the training and motivation to the team. From this event, Nepal was able to have Nepal participate in this global arena along with the other 180 countries.


Member of Parliament of Nepal, Hon. Mr. Binod Chaudhary, also participated and spoke in the program and said that Nepal is rich in culture and a second home of Art of Living. The performance showcased the unique traditional art of honoring spirituality, unity in diversity, co-existing in harmony, and the storehouse of talent in Nepal. The dancers were from different backgrounds, including senior scientists from the National Institute of Health (NIH), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), IT professionals, teachers, entrepreneurs, and students.


As per the spirit of Art of Living, performances were the Deity Dances: Astamatrika, Kumari, Lakhe, Ethnic Dances: Sherpa, Tamang, Gurung, Tharu, and Newar along with background dancers.
