Constitution Day and National Day of Nepal Celebrated

The Embassy hosted today a reception in Washington, D.C. to celebrate the Constitution Day and National Day of Nepal.

On the occasion, Ambassador of Nepal to the United States H.E. Dr. Yuba Raj Khatiwada extended his greetings and best wishes to the members of Nepali community and friends of Nepal in the United States. Welcoming the guests at the event, he highlighted the importance of the Constitution and said:“this Constitution enshrines universal values of democracy, fundamental rights and freedoms, human rights and human dignity while also equally emphasizing the values of equality, social justice, and unity in diversity’. He further added: “this day opens opportunities for meeting national aspiration of Prosperous Nepal: Happy Nepali through rapid development with social justice, inclusion and participation, and creation of the foundation of socialism through peoples’ competitive multi-party democratic governance system.” He called for an extended support from international development partners, well-wishers, and large Nepali diaspora to embark on this journey.

Shedding light on the ever deepening and expanding bilateral relations between Nepal and the United States, the Ambassador appreciated and thanked the US Government for its continued development and humanitarian support and cooperation to Nepal, including the sharing of life saving COVID-19 vaccines and essential medical relief materials in the recent months.

Making a brief remark at the function as the chief guest, the Acting Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs, at the State Department,Mr. Dean Thompson observed that the United States and Nepal enjoy long-standing friendly and cooperative relations. He said the United States will continue supporting Nepal in its path of democratic advancement and prosperity.

The event, which was organized with limited participation this year keeping in view the ongoing pandemic and observing the relevant COVID-19 safety protocols, was attended by officials at various departments and agencies of the US Government as well as members of Washington-based diplomatic and corps. Earlier, the Ambassador hoisted the national flag at the Embassy Chancery. On the same occasion, the messages of felicitations from the Rt. Hon. President and Rt. Hon. Prime Minister were also read out.
